SALEM, Ore.–  For Blanchet’s Joseph Beyer, he had a strong front nine to open the 3A/2A/1A Special District 2 opener, shooting a 40 making the turn to the back nine at McNary Golf Course.  Along the front nine, Beyer made a birdie on the eighth hole and made par on four other holes to open things up on Monday.

Despite not having the best of days on the links, the Cavalier junior pieced together a 81 round to finish fourth on the leaderboards with two more rounds left until the District meet at Florence Golf Links.

“I started off strong.  My swing did not feel good at all the whole time, but I was able to scrape away and made a birdie on eight after a terrible tee shot which was good,” Beyer said. “It goes to show that I can score way better than I have and I know its there, so I have to unlock that and show up at Districts.  I know it’s there, I just have to hit good shots.  I have to hit greens in regulation, make puts, keep the ball in play and not make simple mistakes.”

Western Christian won the event with a team score of 347, finishing 18 strokes ahead of Sisulaw and Regis who finished second in the team points standings.  Kaden Robinson and Gage Slaughter, the latter a two-sport athlete with baseball, finished fifth with the Pioneer duo shooting rounds of 84.  Logan Hill shot an 89 for Western Christian.

For Slaughter, it was a growing aspect coming out of the round as he prepared for what’s ahead.

“It was a great growing aspect, it was a long day for sure but I just kept going at it and not letting each shot get into my head.  There were a couple of holes where it got away from myself, but just trying the best I can,” said Slaughter.
