SCIO, Ore.– It was a tough way to end the Scio Round Robin Wednesday afternoon at Scio High School after their strong finishes Tuesday against Santiam and Gaston for the Jefferson softball team. Tough in that they gave Harrisburg opportunities to free bases on a handful of defensive miscues down the stretch of their 13-3, six-inning, defeat; but a positive nonetheless as the Lions first defeat of the season five games into a long season.
It created opportunities by Nayeli Hart, who struck out 18 in the game and drove in a team-high 2RBI’s, as they can build off their bats going into their 3A Special District 2 opener against Scio on Tuesday.
“It’s giving us opportunities and teaching us how to be aggressive, talking and just playing for each other,” Nayeli Hart said. “Hitting…coming from not having too many scorers and building that up again and overcoming tough teams.”
Jaylinn Frieze also drove in a run for Jefferson as the Lions-Loggers will have the first pitch of their game at 4:30 before Jefferson heads to Toledo Wednesday and to Taft on Friday coming out of the Spring Break week. Aaliyah Gaboriault led the Eagles with 4RBI’s and had a home run. Ava Thomas contributed 3RBI’s as well for Harrisburg.
