SCIO, Ore.– What a way to start the playoffs for the Scio Lady Loggers Softball team Wednesday afternoon.

The offense regained it’s form following their loss Friday as Brooke Young and Nora Mikolas both hit home-runs in the 15-0 five inning win over Rogue River to open the 3A playoffs as Young led the way with a game-high four hits and five RBI game.

“It was definitely nice, it gets us fired upfor the next games,” said Young who hit a three-run home-run in the bottom of the second-inning.

“We just have to do the same thing we did tonight, we hit very well tonight,” continues Young from an offensive output moving forward.  “There were a couple of errors but other than that it was alright.”

As for their defense, it goes deeper than that ‘zero’ on the scoreboard, the no-hitter that they produced as Kelsey Pollard struck out four batters, Ashton Phillips and Young in the infield and an incredible catch by Olivia Zeiher in the Top half of the first inning from her left-field position.

“I think we’re all just positive and we knew what we had to doand we did it and we got it done,” said catcher Emily Unrau, who was on the receiving end of Pollard’s no-hitter Wednesday.

Being one of the two seniors on the team, Unrau knows how nice it is to start their final journey off right

“It’s really excited knowing that we’re going to go out with a bang and I can say I ended my senior in softball with a great group of girls that kick ass,” said Unrau.

Speaking of looking to continue being them, Scio will host Blanchet Catholtic Friday at home as the Lady Loggers will look to carry this great momentum in that game with a chance to go to their third-straight Semi-Final game on Tuesday that’s on the line.

“It’s exciting because they are in our league and we always played them,” adds Unrau. “We played them what? Three times this year already and we know what we have to do, we’ve seen them a lot.”

First pitch is at 5pm for the fourth and final match-up of the season between these two PacWest Conference rivals.
