GERVAIS, Ore.– ¬†After a very successful senior season across the board, Gervais’ Peter McKinley will be taking his talents down south.

No, not to South Beach but to Surprise, Arizona to join the newly formed Spirit Football team coach by Mike Nesbitt, who is coming over after a 25-18 stint at West Texas A&M and will bring 20-plus years of coaching experience to the new program and has never had a losing season in 25-years of coaching.

“It feels amazing!” said McKinley. ¬†“It’s always been a dream, it also means I have a lot more work to put in now and that I have get on the grind more than ever now. I’m really excited to Head to Arizona and play for Coach Nesbitt and move on forward from my life and keep making great things happen for a kid from Gervais.”

This is another great piece of news coming out of the small-town of Gervais, located in between Salem and Woodburn in between I-5 and Highway 99, as Kylor Kelley recently transferred to Oregon State for basketball.

Though different levels and sports, McKinley know how cool it is to see both Kelley’s and his hometown making moves like this to the next level.

“It’s great seeing Kylor sign with OSU a season after being at NAIA and now me going to NAIA kinda shows a lot of hope for the future to come!” said McKinley on the two of them.

Now, McKinley will float between defensive end and middle linebacker as the program will go into it’s ‘redshirt’ season before having their first ‘real’ season in 2018; but McKinley having seen some experience at both positions this past season for the Cougars, and will major in Business Administration before going into marketing and/or Broadcast.
