Stayton Girls Bounce Back With 72-30 Win Saturday

STAYTON, Ore.—They had a few days to mull over their loss to Banks, the girls of Stayton were back on the court versus Tillamook with a renown sense of confidence Saturday night at home as they jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter over the Cheesemakers.

Though they started slow with some minor hiccups, it’s nothing that they can’t work on in practice entering Tuesday’s road contest versus Molalla to smooth out the edges.

“It feels really good to be able to get back to winning and we played a really hard game,” said Emma Lindemann.  “We really go hard in practice, we focused on the  little things and that’ll help us with that.”

Lindemann had 10 points in the contest and had two of the Lady Eagles 11 three-pointers in the win.  Older sister Alyssa led the team with four three’s and 18 points with the bulk of her damage coming in the first half with Stayton leading 44-13 by halftime en route to their 72-30 victory to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss to the Braves.

“It was good to bounce back, Banks kind of handed it to us a little bit as far as the physicality,” said Head Coach Darren Shryock.  “So I thought we did a better job tonight of rebounding for sure.  Obviously defense is going to be everything…tonight we shot the ball well, helps a little bit, overall really pleased.”

One of the girls who helped fork in several rebounds was Alexa Bender as the six-foot junior helped set up the offense to go along with her 14 points.  Bender speaks to how they can carry this momentum in Tuesday’s game versus the Indians on the road, and it starts with coming together at what else, practice.

“Honestly we have to get that good chemistry together, we have to get our reps in,” she said.  “We have a lot of new plays and stuff with a new coach and everything, but we just have to get those reps  and get ready for the game.”

And that’ll start Monday as they prepare for their 7pm tip-off Tuesday night at Molalla High School.
