BEAVERTON, Ore.– The Lady Huskies of North Marion challenged the powerhouse that is Valley Catholic to the brink of a 0-2 start of the season as they battled from a several point deficit to force a 38-all tie at the end of the regulation in a highly contested game.
Bethany Dron and Hannah Kinniburgh teamed up to hold Petra Flemmer to four points in the contest as their defense buckled down against Valley as they looked to upset a 4A favorite.
But, a 11-4 run in extra time against the Huskies allowed Valley Catholic to steal the game away late.
“We missed several wide open layups off inbounds plays that really hurt us in the end,” said Head Coach Trevor Bodine. “Below average shooting night for us overall against a really good defensive team.”
Ally Umbenhower had 15 points, Hannah Kinniburgh had 10 to go along with her strong defensive performance as Mar Verastegui scored eight in the contest.
North Marion (1-1) will be on the road again Friday before they host their Hoilday Classic next week as they travel to Scappoose Friday for their third straight road game. Tip off is at 7:30pm.
