SALEM, ORE.–It took until December 22 of last year for the McKay Boys Basketball team to win their second game of the season.
It took them three games in 2016 to get win number two.
After a slow start that saw the Scots lead by nine by halftime, McKay explodes for their second 90-point game of the season as Shaton Daniels drops a team high 19 points in the victory.
But to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since the Abby’s Tournament right before the start of 2016, it’ll start with practice.
“We have to get better every day in practice,” said Head Coach Dean Sanderson. “This group hasn’t experience winning at the varsity level yet so I’m interested to see how we respond tomorrow at practice.
“If we let a win distract us from what we need to get better at, then we won’t be a winning in our league long term.”
They’ll have a chance for back-to-back wins Friday when they take on their Market Street Rival in North Salem at North Salem High School, the Vikings lost to St. Helens and Woodburn and will be hungry for a win Friday at home.
“Friday is a big game for us,” said Sanderson. “It’s our league opener on the road, and we haven’t had to play in someone else’s gym yet. We expect North Salem to really get after us and we will need to play to be successful.”
Tip off for both teams Greater Valley Conference opener is at 7:15pm.
