Three Lady Huskies Score At Least 14 In Victory On The Road

By Jeremy McDonald

TILLAMOOK, Ore.–  What a way to start a season and a new era for the Lady Huskies of North Marion as not one, not two, but three Huskies scored at least 14 points in the victory.

It seems fitting that Tanner Scanlan led the guys team in points with 21, Emily Scanlan did the same with the girls squad with 16.  Ally Umbenhower and Mar Verastegui both had 14 and Hannah Kinniburgh had eight as North Marion defeated Tillamook on the road 64-35.

It was a nice first game of the year for the Lady Huskies described Head Coach Trevor Bodine as his team worked out the nerves the first couple of minutes of the new season before settling in for the remainder of the game.

It was good for the first game of the year.  Got the nerves out in the first quarter and played well after the first 4 minutes,” described Bodine.  “That’s to be expected but we will need to come out quicker and be a little more patient with shot selection. (We) did a really nice job getting everyone involved and had some spectacular passing.”

The good thing about these first series of games against competition is that it gives you an opportunity to see where your at now and where you need to improve on moving forward.

And Bodine points out that they did well on both sides of the ball, he knows as well they need to improve heading into Valley Catholic on Tuesday on the road at 5:30pm.

“Defense was solid for the most part but will need to improve against Valley Catholic.  We fouled too much and were a little amped up at times and playing too much defense with our hands instead of our feet,” said Bodine.  “Overall,  pleased with the way we played on both ends.  Obviously got work to do in all aspects and will continue ironing things out starting tomorrow in practice. For the first game, very pleased with the effort and teamwork.”

North Marion Scorers (All 11 played):  Scanlan-16, Umbenhower -14, Verastegui- 14, Kinniburgh -8, Bowman-4, Brooks-4, Wing -2, Dron-2, Ensign-0, Martin-0, Jimenez-0
