SALEM, Ore.– The last time Sprague and Sunset met in the playoffs, it was in the first-round of the OSAA 6A Playoffs as the Apollos denied the second half charge lead by then-sophomore Spencer Plant for the 34-28 victory.
Fast forward a year, both teams met again in the same first round of the 6A Playoffs, Plant was the quarterback still and instead of rallying from behind; the Olympians led for most of the 28-27 victory as Sprague’s defense came up big with a two-point conversion and an end-of-the-end batted pass to deny Sunset of a victory and snapping a two-game playoff losing streak to the Apollos.
“It feels great right now,” said Plant. “We’re on top of the world, this will last until tomorrow morning and then we’ll be right back to working on whoever we got next week. At this point we’re feeling pretty confident at the same time we still have a lot to improve on and to get a lot better.”
Dane McKinney had all of the four touchdowns for the Olys as now they turn their focus to Sherwood, the Bowman defeated Century 47-26 Friday night to come down to Olympic Stadium on November 11.
And Plant points to where they can improve on as they advance to the second-round of the playoffs for the first time since 2012 when they reached the Quarterfinals.
“I think we can, I can managing the clock a little bit better,” “We can work on pushing the run game and completing some balls that we should complete. But other than that, we got to play our game and play sharp.”
