GERVAIS, Ore.– Gervais were hoping for a better result in their home opener in the win-loss column, but they sure battled against their rivals from Scio Friday night.
It was the Double-Wing offense from the Loggers and the No-huddle offense of the Cougars.
By the end of the first quarter, Scio held a 14-6 lead after Gervais scored but couldn’t convert on the two-point conversion before the quarters end.
A turnover on downs by the Cougs allowed the Loggers to tear the game open up in the second quarter with 22 unanswered points with Scio leading 36-6 at the half.
The Loggers were met by a Gervais defense in the second half, a Cougar defense that has been known to be tough in their first two games of the season that had gave their offense opportunities to built a comeback.
They scored a touchdown and a two point conversion later, it was 36-14 Gervais by the end of the third quarter.
But, the Cougar offense found themselves hitting against a defense as tough as there’s in Scio as they could only produce one more score as Gervais couldn’t overcome the second quarter deficit as they look to get back on track next Friday at Chemawa at 7pm
