LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.— It’s go time. Playoff season is finally among-st us.
For the 17th-ranked Lakeridge Pacers (14-11, 11-6 Three Rivers League), Lakeridge await for who their opponent will be on May 23 as they earned an automatic bid to the first round of the 6A OSAA Baseball bracket.
Speaking to his team this past Thursday night, Head Pacer Baseball Coach Marco Tavera described how his team is going to approach two very tough non-league games this upcoming week against West Salem and Gresham to prep for whoever that opponent may be that first Monday of baseballs next season.
“Our mentality is that playoffs start Sunday night,” said Tavera. “We are going to have a practice Sunday night, that’s when play-offs start for us. It’s no more, ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do that’ it’s about ‘lets go’.
“We got to get focused mentally now and physically prepare for everything that’s going to come on Monday against West Salem and Thursday against Gresham and go from there for whoever we’re playing in the first round of the playoffs.”
The Titans are sitting 10th in the State and the Gophers are eighth, and as they change they’re changing their tone of mentality Sunday for the playoff push, Tavera knows that this is a huge tune-up for his squad.
”They’re both pretty powerful teams,” said Tavera. “(They’re) two Top 10 teams that are coming into our park next week. A huge tune-up for us, it allows us to see where we stand going into the State Tournament.
“They’re both huge and we’re going to go into it with our starters. We look to keep improving with good quality at-bats, our starters are going to throw deep innings and get us ready for the following Monday.”
As the bracket fills out, Lakeridge knows that they’ll be ready when they come out to play in the first round of the 2016 playoffs.
