STAYTON, Ore.– It was supposed to be ‘The Rivalry: Part 2’ Friday night at Stayton High school for the Lady Eagles and Lady Cougars of Cascade High School.
But a combination of things in the first quarter allowed the Cougars to built a sizable halftime lead en route to a 77-49 victory and a season sweep of their rivals from Stayton.
What happened was this.
Cascade came out quick, firing at all cylinders against they’re rival and creating turnovers and converting them into quick points.
Throughout the first quarter and the first half, the Eagles tried to piece together some offense by way of Tess Hendricks and Alyssa Lindemann as you saw spurts of life coming from Stayton.
A 3-3 tie early, a 6-0 run mid-first quarter to cut the Cougars lead to nine following a Lindemann three-pointer.
But, the Cougars proved too much as they used a 33-17 advantage over the second and third quarters following their 32-16 first quarter output to put the game away soundly enter the fourth quarter up 65-33.
Lindemann and Mariah Hollenbeck both had team-high’s in points with 13 on the night with Hallie Wright having a game-high 23 for Cascade in the victory as the streak now stands at 22 in-a-row.
