With how the economy is, and how hard it is to get a job now a days. I thought I post a blog journal everyday until i get one and probably for the first week of me getting a job.
So, technically its Day five of me on the job searching gig, but Day 1 for me broadcasting or “blogcasting” (similar to broadcasting, but through a blog) it to the world.
So here’s the back story. I graduated from Southern Oregon University back in June of 2011 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism (weird right? A B.S in a “arts”-related department i know haha), and I got a offer for a freelancing job (similar to a regular part-time job) at the Roseville Press-Tribune. Long story short, I moved down to the San Francisco Bay Area last Tuesday (August 9th), in hopes to keep my freelancing gig up in Roseville, CA (Sacramento area) alive until I can get another freelancing gig down here.
Initially I was suppose to be up in Roseville staying with a family friend, but that fell through last second and without a license (which I’m working on as we speak) and steady transportation, it’s difficult I know, thus looking for a nearer newspaper and a second job so I can live on my own.
Back to today.
So I came down here with some help from my girlfriend last Tuesday. By Thursday night I was applying to places. Sports Authroity, 24-Hour Fitness, the Sunnyvale YMCA, Wally’s World (Wal-Mart), Carl’s Jr, etc. just on the front of a second job!
On the Journalistic front, I’ve tried pretty much every newspaper in the Bay Area I could think of and find to minimal feedback. A lot of no answers, a few “no were full”‘s, and one “maybe but no guarantee’s”.
Yesterday I checked in on my Sports Authority one’s. One in Santa Clara and one in Sunnyvale. I couldn’t get in contact with the manager in Santa Clara, but the one in Sunnyvale told me they’re gonna look at it in the next few days.
For today, besides applying to the Gold’s Gym in Campbell, I’m planning to check in (using my bike) at 24-Hour Fitness and the Sunnyvale YMCA to help the process along. Both establishments are relatively close to one another and are a simple mile or two bike ride from where I’m staying at.
