GERVAIS, Ore.– There’s something about this year’s Gervais Girls Basketball team entering the final week of the regular season as they sit 4-6, a game-and-a-half behind Scio for third and a game ahead of Colton for fifth-place.

“The record this season may resemble last year but this is a different team, new attitude, new mentality and desire,” said Head Coach Kyle Buse.  “We are going to playoffs and that because of the hard work these girls have put it over the past year.”

That hard work showed itself following the first quarter where the Lady Cougars were down 6-5 after the first quarter when something clicked.

The defense was there, the offensive execution proved to be improving as it came through when they needed it for the 36-18 victory over Jefferson Saturday afternoon.

That edge is something that Buse loved seeing from his team with the postseason calling.

“I love it,” said Buse.  “We are developing that edge that we need moving into post season.”

Entering the final week, Gervais has Colton on the road for the battle for fourth-fifth and they have Senior Night versus a Playoff Preview against Blanchet Thursday afternoon.
