SALEM, Ore.–  The heart, the determination was there Friday night as the Gervais Girls took a step in the right direction against the Cavaliers on the road as they built leads of 6-0 and 12-6 against the fourth-ranked team in the State of Oregon.

As the Lady Cougars saw the lead turned to a 25-14 deficit by halftime and it crept to 20, Gervais kept fighting as they held BC to 19 second half points in a dang near perfect game for this young squad with them going to Scio Tuesday night.

“My girls played with heart, determination and near perfection. I’m so proud of my girls and this program. This was a big step in the right direction,” said Gervais Head Coach Kyle Buse.  “We stood tall. (We) never backed down. We just kept going. Very proud coach tonight.”

Seniors Fabi Benavides and Andrea Villegas both had 8 points.  Daisy  (Correa) and Izzy Vasquez both had  seven points.

The Girls will look to take this momentum forward to Tuesday’s road game at Scio.  The Loggers lost to Chemawa Friday and will travel to Creswell Saturday.  Tip off of Gervais and Scio is at 6:30pm
