SALEM, Ore.– Following their 26-6 loss to North Salem Thursday afternoon on the road, the message was clear by the McKay High School Freshman coaches:
We got to work harder.
“Like coach just said, we got to work harder,” said Alex Caldera. “We got to work harder, we got to get out in the practice fields, we got to grind. We got to grind, we got to get dirty. I’ve watched so many videos on just getting in there.
“And a lot of video’s I’ve seen, they’ve said, ‘It’s not how hard you get hit, it’s how hard you get hit and keep moving forward’.”
Caldera points to that they get hit a lot, but they keep getting up and keep moving forward. There’s no quit in his team no matter the score.

“We get hit a lot, but we stay together and we keep moving forward,” said Caldera. “So next week, if we just keep working harder as a team as just one person, were all not individuals, we’re one team, one person.”
The boys will finish off the season versus Sprague’s Freshman next Thursday, and though the Olympian freshman are the same intensity as their Varsity; the Scots frosh are ready for them.
“They don’t scare me,” said Caldera. “There just another team that I know we can beat if we put our minds to the together and play as one team.
“They’re a good team, there’s a lot of athletes over there. But we got athletes over here too, we have some of the top athletes in the state and if we can take it to them and we work hard this week, they won’t be nothing to us. They might win, but we’re going to take it to them all game.”
