SALEM, Ore.–  South Salem’s Thomas Burney was running on a rail Wednesday afternoon at the Sprague Hosted Greater Valley Conference three-team meet following his season best time of 17:32.28 at McMinnville last Wednesday.

Following their Bravehart speech prior to the airhorn start, Burney and the runners from his fellow Saxons squad and from the Olympian and McKay squads started the 5K race.

By the end of the first mile, Burney had his pace set as he strolled to the 5K victory Wednesday afternoon at Geer Park.

Through his dominance on the mentally tough course that was actually surprisingly fast compare to the vast difference in terrain on the course; Burney is happy on how his South Salem Saxon team competed and finished strong.

“It’s mental at first because of the straight-aways and switchbacks,” said Burney.  “But I think everyone ran very well, there were a lot of PR’s on the girls side, which is awesome to hear.

“And it looks like the guys are finishing strong, coming into the finish here.  Everyone is working really hard, doing their best out here.”

Stats were not available as of 11:45pm.  But will be found at http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=121937#269 when posted.
