STAYTON, Ore.–  The Boys of Stayton Eagles continued their winning ways Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Philomath to start Oregon West Conference.

Alex Cramer, David Gomez and Guerrimo Esparza were responsible for the three Eagle goals in the win as Stayton improves to 4-0-1 (1-0 in OWC) entering Thursday’s game against the team versus the team from Turner.

On top of that,  Carlin Croft impressed in his first varsity game and the defense that was anchored by Jose Gomez and company kept the Warrior offense in check; but Head Coach Chris Shields know his team could’ve done better Tuesday night.

“(It’s) very frustrated with the chances we left on the field,” said Shields on the opportunities that his offense left on the field Tuesday.

Up next for the Eagles however is rival Cascade at Cascade Thursday afternoon in Turner.

The Cougars sit a 3-1 and won their OWC-opener versus Yamhill-Carlton/Gaston 7-1 Tuesday afternoon and Shields know that Thursday’s matchup with Cascade will be tough

Thursday will be a tough game because of who we play,” said Shields.  “It’s going to come down to who is going to work the hardest and want it more.  The week off was great, I feel we are ready for a start to the season.”

Kickoff is at 4pm at Cascade High School.
