SALEM, Ore.–  Thursday marks the start of the North Salem DeMarini Wood Bat Classic hosted by the North Salem High School Baseball Team at the beautiful Schaefer Stadium at Barrick Field off of Baker Street in Salem.

Teams from all around the area:  The Santiam Senators, PDX Legion I, Northwest Stars and Rex Putnam will showcase their talents against each other.  Not to mention that a team will be participating from Australia during this Summer Classic.

“It’s a lot of fun, we’ve got a great sponsor in DeMarini,” described North Salem Head Coach Chris Lee on the event..  “It’s just a lot of fun play teams, we’ve got a lot of teams from outside the area and it’s fun to play teams that you don’t normally play all the time.

“It just makes you up your and you have to play better and know how it is to get after good teams.”

Vikings own Cameron Kallhoff, who played in the event last year entering his freshman year, knows how hard it will be playing against this competition.

“I think it’s very good for us because it gets a lot of competition,” said North Salem’s Cameron Kallhoff.  “I was here last year and the team from Australia was really good last year, I think they won it.  It’s good for us to play higher up competition because it builds up our ability and stuff.”

The tournament will start Thursday morning when Host-North Salem plays the Senators at 9am to open the tournament and pool play followed by the PDX Legion I and NW Stars at 11:30am.
