SALEM, Ore.– It was Senior Day at Sprague High School for the Sprague Olympian Track and Field team Wednesday afternoon in Olympic Stadium.
For the seniors, its an honor to be in the stadium one last time.
“It’s an honor”, said Andrew Weaver after his 4×100 meter race. “Everybody’s come out every Wednesday or Tuesday and support us. Rain or shine and it’s awesome because you know everyone loves you.”
Weaver would PR in his final home meet in the 200 meter race with a dash of 23.44, just behind teammate S.J Oum who won the event in 23.29 seconds. But Weaver would win the 100 meter dash however.
On the women’s side, Lauren Hagenbeck found herself in a dogfight in the final 100 meters of the Varsity 1500 meters race.
Having led most of the Varsity 1500 meters, McKay’s Hanna Caldwell took the lead in the final 100 meters of the four-lap race.
The sophomore won’t be denied however, as in the final few yards, Hagenbeck found her kick as she took the race by 0.60 of a second.
“It feels so good, especially after wining,” said Hagenbeck. “It was all drive, being in front for the first three laps and until the last 100 meters I was in first.
“I wasn’t going to give it up so I had to dig deeply and push through the pain.”

Some other notables were: Austin Kleinman taking victories in the Shot Put and the Discus and Sophina Oum was dominated at the Junior Varsity level with wins in the 100 meters, Long Jump and was part of the 4×100 meter team that have won as the Olys tallied up 48 wins in the event.
With the Junior Varsity having their JV Bash, which is Districts for the JV, Friday and Varsity having their own Districts next Friday, excitment is in the air.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said Weaver. “I’m really excited for Districts but we’re just taking it as a regular meet then we’ll have every one peaking next week. It’s really important because I’ve never made state and I really want to make it this year and it’s my chance.”
