NEWPORT, Ore.–  Mistakes once again hurt the Stayton Eagle baseball team Thursday at Newport in Game two of the three-game Oregon West Conference league series against the Cubs.

Up 5-0 early on, errors and miscues by the Stayton defense allowed Newport go rally and score 11 of the game’s final 13 runs for an 11-7 victory.

That 5-0 lead, was led by fantastic hitting by the Eagles.  Ryan Brown and Kyle Jorgenson both got RBI singles, Dylan Cudd added two with a RBI Triple, emotions and confidence were high as Matt Lindemann was on target from the mound.

But, entering the bottom of the third inning, the bats of Newport woke up and challenged the youth of Stayton into making errors and converting them into runs quickly.  By the bottom of the fourth, it was 9-5 Cubs.

When Ryan Brown took over at the helm on the mound though in the fourth, the Eagle defense settled down and only allowed two more runs as Brown and Jorgenson drove in the final two runs for Stayton in the seventh inning.

A key concern has been leading into the latest stretch as been the bats of the Eagles, but it’s slowly coming into it’s own with 21 runs the last three games.  The last two, both against Newport, Brown went 4-for-7 and six RBIs.
