STAYTON, Ore.– Stayton had a problem handling the youth in Philomath in the first half of the Oregon West Conference play as the Warriors constantly disrupted the Lady Eagles mojo.
Tuesday night’s match-up was a mirror image of that February 2 game, but this time, Philomath’s youth was ready for Stayton.
With three of the four quarters identical in scoring, it came down to the Warriors four-point advantage in the second quarter to decide the 54-50 game as Hailey Matthews scored 12 points with Haidyen Eckler adding 10 for Philomath in the win.
For Stayton, as they turn their focus to a play-in game for the OSAA 4A bracket, they saw senior guard Tess Hendricks shoot a game-high 20 points to go with her two assist.
Mariah Hollenbeck had six points, but her and Madison Anderson both had team-highs in rebounds with six. Anderson added an incredible 13 steals from her post position in the defeat.
