YAMHILL, Ore.– The Stayton Lady Eagles proved too much for the Yamhill-Carlton Tigers Friday night to close out the first week of the Oregon West Conference play.
Behind strong defense, the OSAA 4A 10th-ranked Eagles (11-3, 2-0 OWC) didn’t allow the Tigers to go above seven points in any given quarter as Stayton extend their winning streak to seven.
Behind a 25-4 second frame, Stayton led the YC 39-7 as Alyssa Lindemann led the Eagles with 11 points and six steals. Maliah Cates also had six steals as the Eagles extended their lead to 43-14 entering the fourth.
Malya Ikea-Mario was one rebound shy of a double-double in the contest as she finished with 10 points and nine rebounds and Sami Sheppard had four of Stayton’s 14 assist in the game as the Lady Eagles now return home to play North Marion Tuesday night.
The Huskies (11-5, 2-0 OWC) defeated Philomath 56-41 Friday as they look to snap Stayton’s winning ways. Tip off is 7pm.
