OREGON CITY, Ore.– The high-tempo offense of Clackamas Community College Friday night as David Douglas Alumni Dwight Dew led the charge for the Cougars.
Behind Dew’s 26-point, 14 total rebound performance, CCC chalked up a 133-78 victory over the Multnomah University JV team.
“The offense was good we ran a lot want to get down in transition,” said Clackamas’ Forward Dew on the offense. “I thought we came out and performed real hard, but we could’ve played a little harder.”
With eight Cougars who scored ten or more points and five players with at least five or more assist, Clackamas Head Coach Clif Wegner said that this offensive output fits his image of the offense he’s looking for.
“We want to run, we want to play up-tempo,” he said. “That’s the tempo we want to play with, obviously we won’t score 130 that often. But if we can play in the 80s and 90s, that’ll be a reasonable goal for us.

“We did a good job, running the floor. I thought we did a good job of sharing the ball, we had 39 assist out of 55 baskets, that’s a great percentage. Shot well from the floor, we can’t make a free throw.”
The Cougars Garrett Litterell scored the first points of the season off the opening tip of the game as the Lions kept close with Clackamas.
With one tie and two free-throws, Multnomah held a brief 6-5 lead two minutes into the game.
Dew was “Dew”-ing work at this point as three early rebounds and four points had helped spark Clackamas to a 15-2 run to build a 20-7 lead 14:12 left in the half.
The offense kept rolling as they lead 67-36 by halftime as they only committed three turnovers.

“The offense was good,” said Dew. “We ran a lot want to get down in transition. We ‘re not that good of shape (yet), but it was real good.”
The lone deficiency in the Cougs game in the opening half was their defense.
With 10 fouls and allowing five of Multnomah’s 12 three-pointers, Dew and his teammates know they need to improve their defense across the board.
“We can improve on everything on defense,” said Dew. “One of the biggest things on defense today was talking. We weren’t talking. We should’ve played a lot better defense, we’ll be going to practice, doing a lot of defensive drills and making sure it doesn’t happen again.”
The second half started with a furry of falling offensive shots.
Four minutes in to the second half, the Cougs scored 16 points to the Lions 11 and had a lead of 83-47 at that point.

Despite committing 12 turnovers in the second half, Clackamas almost matched their point total from their first half with the help of seven three-pointers in the second half.
Wegner understands that what led to the turnovers in the second half was concentration.
“I think it’s hard to concentrate when you’re up 50, 60-points,” he said about the turnover problem in the second half.
The Cougars will have a day in between Friday’s game and Sunday’s game versus Gray’s Harbor, and Wegner describe the plan for their rest day.
“We’re going to look at some flim, we’re going to show some breakdowns, we are going to look at our turnovers, what we did and what they resulted from.
“Cut down some turnovers and improve a little bit at a time. That’s our goal, to keep getting better game-by-game.”
Tip-off for Sunday’s game is 3pm on the campus of Clackamas Community College.
