Looking and hearing the San Francisco 49ers and Jim Harbaugh have came to the decision to “mutually” split up we can assume that the Niners made a mistake.
We can look at it as the 49ers fault because Harbaugh was 44-19-1 as a coach. Who let’s a coach walk like that? Why not kowtow to a coach that made you relevent after eight years in which your best record was 8-8 and no playoff appearances? Jed York and Trent Baalke messed up by letting Harbaugh leave on good terms.
But before we put the full blame on the Niners, here’s an argument on why Harbaugh has equal blame to this. The Niners allowed this fiasco to last all season, but Harbaugh did not do anything to prevent and stop this fiasco from going as well.
I mean all the information I got to make this decision was that Harbaugh wanted more money. He had an opt’d out cause after four years when he signed his 5-year deal in 2011.
Look at the off season when the 49ers and Harbaugh were trying to get an extension going over this past off season. What probably happened was that the Niners gave him an extension offer sheet and Harbaugh hated it and sent a rebuttle offer sheet the Niners refused.
Angry, Harbaugh probably explored options with that opt’d out cause coming out and when the Michigan job opened up last month, the Wolverines gave Harbuagh a offer he couldn’t refuse that probably involved more money that the Niners couldn’t match, causing Harbaugh to opt’d out and wanted a release.
Also too, another thing was Harbaugh’s track record. Three years at San Diego, four at Stanford and now four at San Francisco. He doesn’t stick to one spot for very long. The guy has issues with commitment for longer than a few years, who says that he won’t do this at Michigan? I give him not even a 5-year college class before he bails on the Wolverines.
The Niner management did not do the right by not working out a contract to avoid this, but Harbaugh’s a grown adult and he ultimately make his decision to leave. It takes two to tango.
