In San Francisco, we have been hearing about how Jim Harbaugh is leaving after the season. That the locker room is getting torn apart because of Harbaugh’s coaching style, so on and so forth.
With the media fueling this, and building anger on the side of the 49ers players to shut the media up; San Francisco is 3-0 this season.
True or not, who’s to fault or is right? The media taking what an unnamed Niner player is saying or is it Harbaugh and the Niners for letting this go this far?
The Media
Right: The media is right in that they are taking what an unnamed San Francisco source is saying and running with it. Reacting the way the media should by asking the who, what, where, when and why to every nook and cranny to figure out what the hell is going on. But what is the price of it.
Fault: How many more times has Jed York, the 49er players and even Harbuagh, need to tell the media that “Jim’s our guy” and “there’s not riff in the locker room” before they get it and move on until there’s an named source and some definite answers to our questions?
Jim Harbaugh/Niners
Right: Good ol’ Jim has been in the right by saying that everything’s in the clear and they are working on trying to figure out how it started and trying to end the media circus around speculations on if Jim is going or not going. Now it’s getting to the point where the PR personnel in Santa Clara are probably telling everyone from Jed all the way down to the practice squad guys not to pull a Ryan Leaf whenever someone ask about an update on if Jim’s saying with the team.
Fault: What the Niners and Jim Harbaugh are doing by not stepping in and signing a contract extension or a new contract is, indirectly, creating the thing they think is already happening! It might be a good idea to wait until the end of the season yeah, but how long will San Francisco let this drag out if Jim is already “losing trust” dating back to the pursuit of Peyton Manning in 2012.
It’s hard to tell who is telling the truth right now, but one thing is for certain though.
Something has to give.
