After a week of rest, a week of recovery from the Davis Moo-nlight race. I will be getting back to training for the Sierra Trail Half-Marathon in Granite Bay on October 18th.
The Recovery Week
During my recovery week I was keeping it simple. I was doing an easy 5k (3.1 mile) run for six days with light lifting to get my body working and getting healthy and back into the groove for the grind once more.
By Wednesday/Thursday I was fully recovered from the race; but I did not rush it with heavy lifting in case of rebound muscle soreness.
Back To Work
For my trail running training, I am taking a different approach as I would spend the training with heavy on the leg strength and flexibility to climb the hills but the flexibility to endure the climbs. For the running portion, I am doing a combined version of inclined tredmil training as well as road training for the first six weeks of the training and then slowly work in the trail training over the last six weeks of training for the race.
My Goals for the race
My goals for the race is to cut down to 150-155 pounds come raceday. I’m currently hovering 163.164 so the 8-10 pound weight loss is a healthy weight loss for 12 weeks and the plan is the weight loss will help me increase my speed and not slow me down come mile 5, mile 6 once again (laughter).
I want to aim for between a hour and a half to two hour racing time. If I aim for the 90-minute mark as I did for the Davis Half; odds are I’ll burn myself out too soon once more and the timeframe seems to be a safe bet to aim for.
Aim for Top 25-Top 50 and top 5 in my age group. I am not nearly strong enough as a runner to crack the Top 10-Top25 comfortably; but in the 10-mile race and the two Half-Marathons I’ve ran in, I have not finished worse than 75th-place in any of the races and I finished 6th twice in my age group. Also too, my experience from running can help me comfortably aim in both ranges.
As I said once before, running in half-marathons and finishing the race is an incredible feat. Hopefully I can finish it once more!
