Whitney entered Friday night tied with Antelope in the Capital Athletic League conference at 3-0. But before they enter next week’s contest against Antelope for the title, they had to get past Cordova.
The Wildcats scored early and often in the first half; scoring 42 points in the first 19 minutes of the game behind four Drew Romo touchdown passes.
The Whitney defense stepped up, allowing 28 yards alone in the first two quarters with two interceptions by Josh Gallofin and Marcus Robinson during the first half. Offensively, the Wildcats had 188 yards in the first half.
All was done before a running clock was implemented with seven minutes left in the second quarter.
The Wildcats’ dominance continued into the third quarter as they kept to the ground game, running 11 straight times before finishing the drive on a 1-yard-run by Zuhair Mirza.
But in the fourth quarter, the Lancers managed to piece together a six-play, 84-yard drive to put an end to Whitney’s shutout. The visitors made the score 48-6 with 7:17 left in the game.
