It was a battle of top five defense and top five offense.

Eastern Oregon meets Southern Oregon to deal out the in-state bragging rights.

The 10th-ranked Mountaineers put tr he 12-1 Raiders 92 point a game offense in a physical first half.

Southern Oregon found themselves down 13-6 early before using a 12-5 run to tie it at 18 with 9:30 left.

But with a combination of bad luck and streaking shooting, Eastern Oregon regained the lead shortly after and built off of the lead entering halftime, 40-25.

“We played well in the first half,” said SOU Women’s Head Coach Lynn Kennedy, “we came back on them and tied it up. We just didn’t have enough to finish it off.”

With the lead coming out of halftime, Eastern maintain their lead as Southern Oregon continued to struggle.

Using a 9-4 run to start the second half the Moutaineers manage to rely on their defense en route to a 82-60 victory against the Raiders.

“We just didn’t play good,” said Kennedy, “our defense struggled tonight.”

Southern Oregon, with only their second loss in 14 games, can be at the top or a half-game behind the pack with College of Idaho coming to town tomorrow night from Klamath Falls.

“It’s a new night, a new game.” said Kennedy about tomorrow night’s game.

Tip-off is at 5:30pm in Bob Rheim Arena in Ashland.
