After a tough battle in last year’s contest that resulted in a comeback fell short.  The Raiders of Southern Oregon are looking to redeem themselves against the Keelhaulers of California Maritime Academy.

As the famous saying would go; “Revenge is a dish best served cold”; and the Raiders lived up to the saying.

The Raiders opened the game on a 13 to 3 run before surrendering seven straight Keelhauler points early on.

But the Raiders answered back by going on a 9 to 0 run to be up 16, 26-10 with 9:40 left in the first half.

Southern Oregon were flowing so well, it was like watching the Duke Blue Devils playing.

Wirh 3:01 left in the half, Molly Doran with a half of a Keelhauler in her face, nailed a three pointer and the free throw for the four point play en route to a 49-26 first half.

The Raiders carried this momentum over to the second half as they didn’t relinquish a lead below 23 points as they had a peaked lead at 49 points en route to a 101-53 victory.

“I thought we played pretty well,” said Head coach Lynn Kennedy, “We’ve been practicing at a high pace all week and we had a high intense defensive attack and a fast paced offense tonight.”

Melissa Sweat lead the Raiders with 21 points and in steals with three.  Ashley Claussen and Angelica Cahee both led the Raiders in assist with six and Krysten Copeland led the Raiders in rebounds with nine.

Heading into tomorrow, the Raiders will be facing New Hope Christian on Saturday, and Kennedy expects some minor adjustments leading into the game.

“We need to carry this high intensity over to tomorrow,” he said, “as well as rebounding better offensively and defensively.”

As for the Deacons from New Hope Christian; they are a new team in the sport of women’s basketball but Kennedy doesn’t expect to take them lightly as tip-off is set for 7p.m. on Saturday at Bob Rheim Arena.
