HAVRE, MT–  For the second consecutive week, the 26th-ranked Southern Oregon University Raiders football squad surpassed the 60 point mark en route to their fourth win against Montana-Northern.

The Raiders dropped 65 points to improve to 4-2 in both the season standings and the Froniter Conference standings while allowing the Light to score 34 in this battle of lighting quick passing offenses.

Heading into the second quarter the Raiders (4-2) were looking into the Light (2-4), facing a 24-10 deficit before quarterback Austin Dodge connected to senior receiver Cole McKensie on a 36 yard touchdown pass, Dodge’s second of six on the day and McKensie’s first of two, with barely a half a minute into the quarter.

Three minutes later, Dodge found senior receiver Michael Olson off of a 60-yard bomb that gave the Raiders a 24-17 lead.

An lead the Raiders never relinquish  as they went on a 35-6 tear in the second quarter as they rushed to the light switch to go into the half up 45-27.

The Raider defense step up in the second through the rest of the game as they intercepted Montana-Northern’s Derek Lear twice, both by corner back Josh Leff, and sacked him five times behind Rasjeon Hines and Austin Smith’s two sack a piece performances.

However, this was before Lear threw up 500 yards and six touchdowns in the air on 37 passes in the only bright spot for the Light’s offense as the Raider running defense was phenomenal, holding the Light to -9 yards on 19 carries.  An average of -2.1 yards a carry.

In the second half, the Raiders scored first via a Colin Amsler’s field goal 26-yards out. Lear connected to reciever Kyle Johnson on the Light’s next possession from 28-yards out halfway through the third quarter to cut the SOU lead to 48-34.

That would be the closest the Light would get to the Raiders in this half as Dodge connected on two more passing touchdowns, one to senior running back Manny Barragan in the third from six yards out and another one to McKensie in the fourth from a yard out.

With 48 seconds left, Amsler connected on his third field goal on the day with 48 seconds left in the game to extend the lead to 65-34.

By game’s end, the Raiders yet again broke the total offense yardage record with gaining 729 yards behind Dodge’s 502 yard performance and 227 yards on the ground with freshman Zach Marshall’s 88 yards leading all rushers.

They gained 27 more yards this week on offense than they did last week when they broke the 22-year-old offensive record last week against Eastern Oregon.

The back-to-back games of 60 or more points are the most in school history and the -9 yards rushing allowed is the third time in school history that the Raider defense has allowed negative yardage on the ground.

The Raiders go to 4-2 on the season while the Light drop to 2-4 with the Light facing 8th Carroll College.  For SOU, the Raiders revving up for a rematch in Dillion, Montana against Montana-Western in which the Raiders defeated the Bulldogs, 54-21 in the Medford Classic back in early September.
