The 18th-ranked Southern Oregon University football Raiders (3-2) are heading up to The Treasure State this weekend to face Montana-Northern (2-3) in Havre, Montana looking to improve off a 46-point win last weekend.

After an 709 yard offensive performance last week against across state rivial’s Eastern Oregon, the goal has become not to have a let down SOU coaches have said.  Now the goal is to start and finish a two-week treasure hunt in Montana to set up a big match-up at the end of the month at home.

Quarterback Austin Dodge leads the conference in passing with 1860 yards behind 17 touchdowns and a 66.7-percent passing efficiency in five games this season.

Receivers Cole McKensie and Patrick Donahue are one/two in the conference in receptions with McKensie at 38 receptions for 688 yards and six touchdowns and Donahue at 37 for 446 yards for four touchdowns.

To beat the Lights, the Raiders must look for the holes in their defense one assistant coach told me.  They’re defense is tough, but holes will open up if they wait for it long enough.

Defensively, the Raiders are hoping to raise havoc on the Light’s back field behind defensive tackle/nose guard Juwuana Brown and Kalii Robinson.  Brown is anchoring the line with four sacks and leads the team with 5.5 tackles-for-losses.  For Robinson, he is anchoring the 3-4 linebacking core with a team lead in tackles with 48 and 3.5 tackles-for-losses from his middle linebacker spot.

In the secondary, cornerback Josh Leff leads the area and team with two interceptions for 15 yards and saftey Heston Altenbach is second on the squad and leads the secondary with tackles at 35.

The Raiders are number one in six areas that include points per game at 48.4 a game, passing offense at 408.4, and Total sacks on the quarterback at two.  They are also in the top 10 for six other area’s as well.

As for the Lights, they are on a two game winning streak since starting the season 0-3.  Offensively, the Lights are in a two quarterback system as they are lead by Jeff Logan, whom has thrown for 996 yards this season behind six touchdowns and three interceptions.  Second string Kenney Bradley owns 446 yards himself behind three touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.

On the defensive front, the Raiders offense will have a challenge keeping up with Montana-Northern’s tough front seven as defensive linemen Kelly Houle and Philip Selin combined have six sacks and 10 tackles-for-losses this season.  Both players have three a piece in sacks and Houle has six to Selin’s four in tackles-for-losses.

At linebacker, they must keep an eye on 5’8 196-pound Will Fields as fields has the speed to compete for the sack, with five on the season, and tackles, second on the team with 31.

Kickoff for the Raiders football squad in Treasure Island starts at 12:30pm on Saturday.
