Coming off of a tough 48-45 double-overtime loss to number 16 Montana Tech from last Saturday; the Southern Oregon University Raiders (2-2) are looking to rebound against in-state rivals, the number 24 Eastern Oregon UniversityMountaineers.
The Raider’s offense continue their dominance in the NAIA this weekend as they lead the nation in total offense with 586.5 yard per game, passing offense with 357.8 a game and only giving up only one sack at this point of the season as they rank fifth in the nation in scoring offense with 43.5 a game.
Individually, the Raiders Austin Dodge is leading the nation with 348 yards a game and receiver Cole McKensie is ranking second in the nation with 140 yards a game and third in receptions with 8.8 receptions a game.
Defensively, the Raiders are without Rasjeon Hines due to injury, but are averaging 2.5 of they’re 10 sacks a game and have 32 tackles of losses, or tackles behind the line of scrimmage and holding opponents to 14 points a game at home this point of the season.
The Mountaineers (2-2) themselves are looking to rebound after a tough loss to Montana-Western last weekend. They are hoping rebound after dropping 10 spots in the NAIA rankings since the start of the season.
Eastern Oregon hold themselves strong on defense as they are eight in the nation in sacks with 3.5 a game, holding opponents to converting third downs only 40 percent of the time, and only allowing 19.8 points a game on the defensive side of the ball.
Offensively, they are averaging 287.5 yards a game behind quarterback Jason Simonis, whom has completed 62.8 percent of his passes but is averaging 86.8 yards a game. Which makes the running game a voical point of the Mountaineer offense as they are averaging 200.7 yards a game on the ground.
All-time against the Mountaineers, the Raiders holds a 45-14-3 record and have won the last three meetings. Last season, the Raiders including a 46-34 upset over Eastern Oregon when the Mountaineers were ranked 16th in the nation.
The Small School Civil War is set to kick off at 1:00p.m. at Raider Stadium in Ashland.
