It’s that time of the year.  Major League Baseball’s All-Star game. One of the bright moments of America’s Past-time’s season.

But, it makes me wonder; if they put pressure on both teams to win in order to have home-field advantage during the World Series, why aren’t we treating this like a regular season game?

Let’s look at this first; the fans voted in the players they want to see play from their favorite team or League, so let them play right?  You want to pay to see these million dollar athlete’s play in a game.  I’m one of these fans, I want to see them play.  Also too, these $100 million dollar players are thinking, “If I’m wasting my time coming here, I better get to play.”

And they do because it is an All-Star game and the “All-Star” players will get an opportunity to showcase the reason that they are All-Star’s.

But, another weird point is this.  With the implications on hand with home-field advantage in the World Series.  When do you decide when is a good time to replace players and still win this game.  Would you keep a A-Rod on the bench if it means winning possibly home-field advantage for your team if your a manager or a player?

This is what I agree on too because, if it was a regular chicken-crap All-Star game like in the NFL or the NBA; then I would replace that player with A-Rod.  But if it has implications like this, and it is a 4-3 game and it’s coming down to the Bottom of the Ninth with 2 outs; would I replace a player that is warm and that is able to play with a player that hasn’t done anything since warm-ups or batting practice like three hours ago?  I don’t think so.  I would stick with the player that has been playing to win this game.

My overall point is this.  With the chance of winning home-field advantage for not just you or the rival team in your division, why don’t we treat this game as if it is like one of the other 162-games in the regular season.  There is a reason why Bob Selig did this, and that is to increase competition in a All-Star game to keep fans and players alike interested and to make it matter.
