Future hall of famer Bill Parcells is staying retired from football and not coach the New Orleans Saints. Good choice? Bad choice? Personally, I say good choice.
Look at this, the Saints are in a bad spot from the get-go in every aspect of their management and game. Imagine this, your head coach is out for the year, typically it screws with the momentum with the team if your head coach isn’t running the show. Your GM (Mickey Loomis) and linebackers coach (Joe Vitt) are suspended for eight and six games respectively, more or less HALF the damn season.
The team you might be coaching for might not listen to you because they know your only a replacement and will be gone in a year. As well as that your star quarterback in Drew Brees is being a better way of saying this, but a baby and not want to sign the contract that the Saints are offering. More or less, how can you coach a team that doesn’t really want to play for you?
Now let’s look at this from Parcells end, your 71-years-old, you’ve already punched your ticket to Canton (in Ohio), why screw that up? Why screw it up when your a year away from the Hall of Fame and odds are going to go in on the first ballot in your first year? If he would’ve came out of retirement and coached, he’ll be closing in at 77 before he’s hall of fame eligible again; even then most people don’t get in your first time depending on that year’s class of possible inductee’s. Also too, it’s not like your going to be coach for a few years like most coaches, its a one and done thing. Not even worth it in my opinion.
In my opinion, Parcells made the best choice of staying out of this mess that the Saints got themselves into.
