Below is another piece of work I’ve done for my senior project/capstone at Southern Oregon University.
Inside the Medford Gospel, sat rows of blue plastic seats. Some are sleeping on two or three charis, some are up and talking to one another.
In front of the room, a stage, a brown stand, and a television in front of a giant cross.
In the corner of the room, next to a bookcase full of people’s backpacks and possessions, sat a large, shaved head, goatee bearing sat a man name Tom.
Tom is a native of Sacramento, California who’s high school days brought him a 3.9 overall GPA and a trip to ITT tech in Rancho Condova.
“I got mostly A’s, with a expect of a B…maybe two,” he said.
He studied and got a degree in Information Technician.
“I learned a lot about modems, monitors, etc,” he started, “it was a lot of studying and work.”
So why is a computer wiz unemployment? Homeless playing Monster Hunter in a homeless shelter? Why no call of duty?
“The job market was hard in Sacramento,” Tom said, “So I thought I try my luck up here.”
He hopped up here on a Greyhound bus a few days ago and he’s liking the shelter so far.
“I like it here. They feed you three times a day as well as give you a temporary roof over your head till you get back on your feet.”
Tom doesn’t have a plan of action yet, but he hopes to figure something out before his 10 days are up.
