Welcome to McDonald’s
After one day of training at the McDonald’s off of Biddle Road in Medford, Mark Is optimistic of what the future holds for him.
“I’m trying to save up enough money to live in a ca or get into a hotel room then save up for a place from there,” said the 24-year-old.
His story features a suspended license that happened when he was 15-years-old in Gold Hill, Oregon.
“I was coming home one from work one night,” he said, “and I was caught not having a license on me.”
It was a $350 fine, which he’s still paying off nine years later.
“I got it down to like $135 or something like that before I started slacking off,” he started. “It’s probably pushing 3- or $4,000 now with all the interest.”
His work ethic at jobs started a rollercoaster ride, he’ll be working well for two or three months, then laziness started to set in he said.
“I would call in sick and skip work. All that good stuff.”
This is his second stint at the Medford Gospel. He was rewarded with a 45-day extension that was tacked onto his original 10-day stay period when he got his job at McDonald’s on National Hiring Day.
“They called me up the day after then interview on National Hiring day and offered me the job.” Mark said.
On top of his required wardrobe for the job, Mark has to cover up his arms because of his tattoos on his arms with a long sleeve shirt. His tattoos, reflect his religious beliefs with the face of Jesus on one of his arms.
On his first day of work, first day of training, they had him work on the fryer where they made the fries.
“It’s harder than you think,” he started, “you got to put them in, push a button, take them out, shake ’em, put them back in, push another button.”
Repeat that a few times, take them out, put them in the tray, put some salt on them and you got McDonald’s french fries.
“I’m taking advantage to this opportunity,” Mark repiled.
Day two of work and training would feature Mark on the register and possibly the grill.
