MOLALLA, Ore.–  Down ten to 4A’s Gladstone, the 1A Perrydale Girls Basketball team mounting a comeback.  Turning a once 23-13 third quarter deficit in their Summer League Pool Play game with the Gladiators at Country Christian into a 30-30 tie by the 2:43 mark in the fourth quarter.

“We had a lot of energy, more energy than yesterday and I think it made the team more energized to try to fight for the win,” said Madi Gunther.  “Playing as a team, picking each other up and not hanging our heads after  the tough loss.”

Gladstone took back the lead on the next possession, leading 32-30 before the Pirates tied it up with 92 seconds remaining in the contest.

A young squad with a solid returning core of underclassmen from last year’s 11-13 squad, this Summer Basketball season has seen improvement for the those returning.  Especially under first-year Head Coach Madi Hull.

“Today we’re playing the same team and #50, she was a really good shooter and she was making her three’s (on Thursday), today we locked her down more and we didn’t let her get them,” said Zoey Thorson.  “It’s crazy I don’t know, it’s fun.  It’s been a good experience.  With Madi (Hull), she changed our style of playing a lot.  We’re going, going, going and running a lot more new stuff.  It’s helping a lot.”

Perrydale closed out the second day of the Country Christian Tournament play with Dayton and Estacada, closing out Pool Play.  Bracket play starts Saturday at Country Christian.
