SWEET HOME, Ore.–  Ever since he PR’d at the  Harvey Lewellen Throws Invitational back on March 25 with a javelin throw of 152-feet-3-inches, Amity’s Kiyan Vrell has been steadily throwing the javelin pole in that 156-160 foot-range over the course of the last three meets since that 150-plus PR.  Building some consistency as he hopes to build from coming down the home stretch of the 2023 Track and Field season.

Finishing fourth at the Meet of Champions Saturday at Sweet Home High School with a throw of 158-feet-2-inches to go with his fourth in the Long Jump with a jump of 19-feet-9-inches.

“Seeing the consistency of the high-150’s, it’s good to see because I know there’s going to be another peak coming soon.  Ive been consistently in the 150’s and I know there’s going to be another big PR here soon.  Hopefully that’ll be at districts and State,” Vrell said.  “The last couple of meet’s I’ve been at 158, so I’m right there.  It was big hitting that 160 at the big home meet (April 6), that one milestone so now just focusing on the next milestone at the school record at 167.  One thing I’m missing is piecing it all together all at once.  One time I’ll get the block right and then the next not following through the tip, so just getting it all to click that one throw is what I’m looking for.”

Freshman Warrior Eliza Nisly made some noise in her first MOC this year, finishing seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.31PR), sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.55PR) and sixth in the Long Jump (15-feet-5.5-inches) to place in all three events that she qualified for in the meet Saturday.  The 200-meter race was the second time she had ever ran in the event.

“It’s good to see the competition that I’ll have in the future coming up.  The Long Jump was ok, it wasn’t my best…I’m pretty happy with my 100-meter time, I PR’d,” Nisly said.

Evan Hake finished 18th in the 400-meter race.  Jessica Alba was 16th in the 800-meter race and Brennan Hake was 20th in the 1,500-meter race.  Hailee Stewart was ninth in the shot put (30-feet-7.5-inch PR) and ninth in the discus.  Kylie Wilson was tenth in the Javelin.
