STAYTON, Ore.– Regis’ Haden Gough had one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities going into his senior year when he took part in the 2023 Super Senior Showcase at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer. One of several seniors from the 1A-6A Classifications to partake in the event back in February.
“It was really fun. It was really fun because all of those guys out there, they’re all just guys ready to compete. It was laid-back, but it’s really competitive at the same time. You want to be the best guy out there and you want to win as a team,” Gough describes the event. “It really got my nerves out of the way for the year. I was nervous going into the game, I didn’t know what was going to happen. But it just got my nerves away, got me ready for this year to come win the league title with the team.”
For Gough, he may not be the biggest, fastest or strongest kid out on the diamond, but his passion and determination is there. That competitive spirit and that no-quit mentality.
Ever since he could walk, ball has been life for Gough. It has given him an opportunity to continue living the dream next year as the senior infielder will be heading to Chemeketa Community College as a Prefered Walk-On for the Storm and majoring in Business.
“Oh it means everything to me, I thought I’d never get an opportunity like this. I’m so happy to take full advantage of it,” Gough said. “Since I could walk I’ve played baseball, so pretty much all of my life I’ve been playing.”
And the jobs not done yet for Gough and the Rams. Sitting at 8-2 on the year and 5-0 in the 2A/1A Special District 3 standings, the goal of winning the league title is still there as they move into the second half of the regular season.
“If we can come in, ready to compete every day and play as a team. Hit the ball, make plays, we’re going to do great,” Gough said.
