South Salem Improves To 5-0 On The Year

BEAVERTON, Ore.–  The South Salem Baseball team just found ways to stay ahead of Oregon City Tuesday afternoon at Mountainside High School.  The Saxons relied on timely hits, building a 4-1 lead going into the fifth inning.  Their defense made the stops they needed to in the elements dealt to them with the rain and fast turf, making the stops and limiting the Pioneers scoring to a run here and there.  Not to mention getting out of jams where runners were in scoring position and two separate bases-loaded jams in the fourth and sixth innings.

The latter came in clinch the 6-4 victory as the two squads were up against the time limit before they could start the final inning of the game in what felt like a complete team effort out there in their Spring Break game on this day.

“This was a big contribution game from all our guys.  We all put a little bit into the game and we were able to come out with the dub,” Braedy Vogt said.  “Our base running is a big thing, we take pride in taking extra bags and getting the boys around and getting some runs up, that’s what we like.”

Vogt, Sawyer Nelson, Boyd Messman and Josh Feik all drove in runs  for the Saxons in their fifth-win of the season, one win shy from matching their win total from 2022 already in five games to start the young season.  They’ll look to continue their strong start to the year Wednesday back at Mountainside High School when they take on Aloha at 2pm.

“I think it’s awesome, honestly, everyone’s confidence has gone up since last year.  Last year we struggled a little bit, so going into this year everyone is up on their feet ready to go.  It’s going to be hard to beat us this year, everyone is up and we’re ready to go,” Teagan Scott said.
