TURNER, Ore.– Trinity Schmuck had herself a game on her Senior Night as a member of the Cascade Girls Basketball team Thursday night. Scoring 12 points in the Cougars 62-41 victory over Newport to clinch at least a share of the Oregon West Conference Title going into Monday’s Game as her, Meah Carley and Jessica Main were honored going into the game.
“We kept the intensity going and followed through,” Schmuck said as the Cougars finished the game on a 35-20 run to close out the game.
Maddie Dustin led the way with 19 points with four three-pointers.and Carley contributed another 11 points in the win as this brand-new team has found themselves one win away from winning the league outright. Standing in front of them however is Philomath, who defeated Stayton 34-15 Thursday to keep their title hopes alive going into the final game of the season on the other side of the weekend.
“Coming in with a brand new crew and meeting new teammates, we’re really good on the court and I love being with them. This year has been really fun,” starts Carley of this season.
Tori Smith led the Cubs with 14 points as Newport wraps up the season MTuesday in hosting North Marion. Sheala Simmons contributed eight points for the Cubs.
The Cascade Boys Basketball team defeated Newport 67-37 with Sam Horne leading the way with 21 points. Spencer Horne had 11 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
