Wrestling Round-Up

A lot of tournaments happened this past weekend that featured a lot of local Salem-area teams. Here’s a rundown on how they did:

Golden Yam

Willamina’s Zoe Brewer  won the 100-105 pound bracket with North Marion’s Bethany Nunn finishing second.  The Bulldogs Kisor Savage (113), Austin Johnson (152), Rhyne Nelson (220) all won their respective brackets.  The Huskies Nolan Miller (285),  Antonio Guarnieri (170), Bruce Bankhead III (145) all finished secondNorth Marion finished fourth and Willamina finished second at the Golden Yam Tournament at Yamhill-Carlton High School.

Hood River Valley Girls invite

Kennedy’s Alex Geschill finished second at the Hood River Valley Girls Invitational Saturday.  McNary’s Ali Martinez won the 190 pound bracket while Kaliyanei Hill finished fourth at 125 pounds and McKenna Unger was sixth at 120 pounds.

Joe Stewart Invitational Girls Tournament

Woodburn’s Emily Grassham (155), Analee Cruz (220) brought home titles from the Joe Stewart Invitational Girls Bracket.   The Bulldogs Isabella Renner (170) and Emily Brown (100) each finished second and Crystal Hernandez (135) finished third to help Woodburn finish third as a team.

Paul/Larson Boys and Girls Invitational

McKay’s Garet Flores (138) finished second in the Paul/Larson Boys Invitational at Sandy High School.  North Salem’s Aundre Chacon (113) and Imyas Aguilar (220) each brought home titles, winning their weight classes.  Stayton’s Lyric Burroughs finished second at 160 pounds and Conrad Baxter (126) finished third.North Salem’s 

Liliana Ponce defeats Sprague’s Chaya Palomo to take the 88-101 pound title at the Paul/Larson Girls Invitational at Sandy High School.  The Vikings Telsarina Walker (108-116), Mariko Sonis (121-132), Icela Sanchez Rodriguez (135-145), Mia Chacon (146-160), Charlotte Bales (163-169), Jennifer Trujillo (188-189) all brought home Title Victores.

Tualatin Invitational 2023-

South Salem’s Alex Decrozuc  finished third at 220 pounds and West Salem’s Corbyn Taylor finished third at 170 pounds

Varsity Tod Surmon/Mid-Valley Classic

Sprague’s Andrey Cernev (138), Seth Carp (145), Josh Camillo (160), Kenya Johnson (182) and Cole Steketee (285) all won titles at the event as the Olympians finished second at the event as a team.  Central’s Ethan Dunigan (152) also brought home a Title to keep up his undefeated season.  The Panthers Jose Lugo won the 195 pound title as well.  Dayton’s Ethan Hedgecock was fifth at 285 pounds.  McNary’s David Ramirez Sierra (132) and Derek Jones (113) were fifth and sixth respectively.
