The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club honored Salem Academy’s Haley Ferry (Girls Basketball), West Salem Reese Lawson (Girls Wrestling), South Salem’s CC Buarer (Girls Swimming), North Salem’s Aundre Chacon (Boys Wrestling), West Salem’s Jackson Leach (Boys Basketball) for the Week of January 20.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, fromSalem Academy Girls Basketball, is Haley Ferry.

Haley is a sophomore for the #1 ranked, 13-2 Crusaders. In last week’s two games Haley averaged 14 points, 5 boards, 2 blocks and 2 steals a game. She also shot 85% from the line.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, fromWest Salem Girls Wrestling, is Reese Lawson.

Reese is a junior for the Titans. Reese is undefeated this year, a perfect 16-0 on the season, winning every tournament she has entered: the Coast Classic, the Canby Invitational, the McMinnville Invitational, and, most recently, the Southridge Invitational this past weekend. Coach Mike Baker also says that Reese “also does a great job in the classroom. She is a great student-athlete for the Titans!”

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, fromSouth Salem Girls Swimming, is CC Baurer.

CC is a senior and a captain for the Saxons. CC won both her races in the dual against McNary, and out touched a West Salem swimmer in the 100 Free in last week’s dual against the Titans. According to head coach Brittney Awalt, “CC is a leader in the water and outside the water. She’s a captain and completes every workout. She never stops during practice and is constantly encouraging her teammates to keep going even when they feel like stopping…She is currently swimming right on top of her lifetime best.

CC is undecided about her plans for next year but would like to attend a four-year school and compete in swimming.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, fromNorth Salem Boys Wrestling, is Aundre Chacon.

Aundre is a senior for the Viks. Aundre is undefeated, with 15 wins on the season. He recently placed first at both the McMinnville and Lebanon Invitationals. On Thursday Aundre squared off against the #1 ranked wrestler at 106 pounds from McNary and pinned him in the third period. In the finals in Lebanon, Aundre faced the #2 ranked wrestler at 113 pounds from Mountainside and dominated with a final match score of 12-0. Coach Andy Pickett says, Aundre “has been a pitbull on the mat”. (No offense to pitbulls.)

Aundre is unclear on his plans for next year but would like to continue to wrestle in college.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, fromWest Salem Boys Basketball, is Jackson Leach.

Jackson is a junior for the #10 Titans who are 8-6 on the season and 3-0 in league. In the 58-53 win over South Medford in the Abby’s Holiday Classic, Jackson hit three from beyond the arc as West came back from 18 points down to win the championship. In the opening round he had 10 points, 8 boards, and 12 assists as West beat North Eugene 77-56. Jackson earned tourney MVP honors. On the season he’s averaging 12.6 points, 5.2 boards, and 6.8 assists game.
