JuCo Round-Up: Chemeketa Basketball Splits With Mt. Hood

The Chemeketa Women’s Basketball team entered Wednesday’s game with seven total players when they hosted the Mt. Hood Saints in NWAC South Region play.  But despite having two subs, the Storm rolled out to an 11-point halftime lead, leading Mt. Hood 35-24.

A lull in the third quarter allowed the Saints to bring the game back into reach going into the fourth quarter as Chemeketa’s lead was now one at 49-48 and the momentum into the fourth to help slip by the Storm 67-65.

Woodburn’s Aria Kent led Chemeketa with 17 points.  Stayton’s Karlee Tyler (15), Gervais’ Celi Vasquez (12),  and South Eugene’s Jenna Glenzel (10) all scored in double-figures as the Storm (7-8, 1-2 NWAC South Region) head to Linn-Benton on Saturday ay 2pm and Portland Community College on Wednesday. Kilee Hoylman led all scorers with 25 for Mt. Hood, who are at Clark College next Wednesday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL 

Chemeketa jumped out to a 39-23 halftime lead in their 82-62 win over Mt. Hood in Wednesday’s nightcap at Chemeketa Community College.  It’s the fifth win of the year and second-straight for the Storm (5-8, 2-1 NWAC South Region).  Western Christian’s Austin Sladek led the way for Chemeketa with 20 points.  Jaden Stanley (13), South Salem’s Kieran Pruett (12) and Silverton’s Neil Efimov (10) all scored in double-figures in the win for the Storm.  Pruett had a team-high seven rebounds and Efimov had a team-high three steals as Chemeketa heads to LBCC Saturday in Albany and to PCC on Wednesday.
