LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.– The Sprague Girls Basketball team responded strongly Sunday coming off of their tough 65-51 defeat to Southridge the day before, taking down Reynolds 63-27 in the process to advance to the Nike Interstate Tournament White Bracket Consolation Championship monday afternoon.
Freshman Carly Skogstad paced the Olympians with 19 points, eight coming in the second quarter in which Sprague flipped the switch and turned a close 15-12 game into a 33-14 halftime lead by quarters end.
“We knew we were better than that. We knew individually we had more talent, so we turned it on and our coach hyped us up.Hanson has brought us a lot of energy and a lot of hope. Our team is so supportive, everyone’s excited for us,” Skogstad said of the second quarter. “I’ve been looking forward to playing here for years, so I know I just have to be confident, try my best and do what I can.”
Makenna Trussell contributed another 15 points and Resse Beyrouty contributed another six points in the victory that saw Sprague bridge their second quarter surge into the third. It continued into the fourth as the Olys forced the running clock in the frame to finish off their fifth win of the season, improving to 5-2 on the season going into Monday’s game with the Warriors.
“It was huge,we knew we had to come ready to play. We were missing some people, so people had to step up and we knew we could beat this team,” Skogstad said of the win.
Tip off is at 12:25pm at the West Gym at Lake Oswego High School.
