Gervais Rolls In Sandoval’s First Game As HC

By Jeremy Mcdonald

GERVAIS, Ore.– New Coach, new scheme, no problem for the Gervais Girls Basketball program as they opened the Enrique Sandoval-era with a dominant 58-14 win over Yamhill-Carlton High School Wednesday night.
Leading as much as 31-6 at halftime as Olvia Boyd led the way with 16 points for the Cougars as they now turn their focus to Valley Catholic in a few days. Hoping to take the lessons from this game into Tuesday’s game against the Valiants.
“It was great. It was a confidence-booster to know that we can do it with a new coach and a new dynamic change. It was good to know that we can come out, play our game,” Boyd said. “(YC) gave us a good test to get our plays more set going into tougher games like Bandon and it’s a good solid win going into the next one.
“We can work on our plays a little bit more. We were expecting to come out in Man, so we weren’t prepared for zone plays and running zone offense against them.”
Tip-off against Valley Catholic will be at 6:30pm before the Cougars host Bandon next Friday at 6:30pm.
