SALEM, Ore.– The South Salem Boys Soccer team has themselves a nice little winning streak going after their 3-1 victory over West Salem Friday afternoon
Goals by Dylan Crook, Max Yermachenkov and Josue Ruelas in the first half paced a high-scoring first half with the four goals being scored then as the Saxons have started Central Valley Conference play 2-0 after a tough non-league schedule.
“We’re getting on a roll now and we’re getting stronger as a team. Just trusting our teammates more and laying smarter. That’s been pretty big, at the beginning (of the season) we were being solo, playing solo and now we’re playing together,” said Yermachenkov.
West Salem, who’s been battling through injuries and had 11 available players by game’s end, had battled and matched South Salem’s second half shutout with one of their own as they hoped to bring some of those injured players back for next week’s games. Playing with eight players battling some kind of ailment going into next week.
“I’m proud of the guys. I’m proud of them because they didn’t quit, we were down to 11 guys that could play,” Titans Head Coach Sean Young said. “All of these guys are giving it their all.”
Raul Guevara had the lone goal for West Salem as the Titans travels to Sprague on Tuesday. The Saxons host North Salem on Tuesday.
