McNary’s Emily Blagg (Volleyball), West Salem’s Morgan Dorsey-DuQuesne (Girls Soccer), Sprague’s Rubi Morrissette (Volleyball), McKay’s Abdoulie Jallow (Boys Soccer) were honored by the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club for the Week of September 23.

Here’s the Press Release:

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week from McNary Volleyball is Emily Blagg.

Emily, a senior, is a middle blocker for the 11-0 and 3rd ranked Celts. She is leading the team – a team currently at 6-0 in the Central Valley Conference and having won 30 of 36 sets played this season – with 163 kills and a hitting efficiency of 42.5%. That is, almost 43% of her attempts result in a McNary point.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week from West Salem Girls Soccer is Morgan Dorsey-DuQuesne.

Morgan, a senior, plays forward for the undefeated 4-0-3  and 15th ranked Titans. In the 3-0 win over Nelson, Morgan scored two goals and caused trouble for the Hawks defense throughout the match.  In the first five games of the season, she is leading West’s offense with 7 goals and an assist, scoring at least once in each match, 26% of the Titan’s scoring.

Coach Benje Orozco says, “Morgan is a gifted athlete who is tough to contain when she is firing on all cylinders. She gives us a physical presence up top and can take on defenders to create scoring opportunities for herself and teammates.  She is just barely scratching the surface of what her potential can reach.  Excited to see how this season plays out for her!”

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week from Sprague Volleyball is Rubie Morrissette.

Rubie, a senior, is an outside hitter for the 8-3 Olys. At the Central Catholic tourney she had 31 kills with a hitting percentage of .477.  In last weekend’s Sprague tournament she had 7 aces, 37 kills, and 30 digs. In the first league match of the season, a 3-1 win over West, Rubie had 16 kills and 20 digs.

From Coach Anne Olsen: “Rubie tore her ACL [at the end of her] freshman year and has worked back to being one of the top players in Salem.  Her grit and competitiveness helped her to get to this point.”

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week from McKay Boys Soccer is Abdoulie Jallow.

Abdoulie, a junior, plays forward for the 5-0 and 9th ranked Scots. Abdoulie had a strong week, scoring once in the 2-nil win over North Salem, and scoring four times in the 6-nil win over Canby. Through the first four games of the season the Scots have outscored their opponents 22-nil.

Coach Juan Llamas says, “Abdoulie is a great asset to the team and has quickly turned into a member of the family. This is his first year playing soccer at McKay but we are thrilled to have him on our team.  He is a great example of a student athlete. Abdoulie not only exceeds on the field, but also in class.”
