AMITY, Ore.– Amity’s Eliza Nisly is going to cause some headaches this year with her playing style coming out of the gate in her first High School game. Scoring both of her goals Tuesday afternoon in the opening half that saw the Warriors rally back from 3-1 down to tie the game up at 3 against Riverdale.
“It’s pretty exciting, I’ve been waiting for High School (Soccer) for a very long time and to play with this team,” Nisly said. “Definitely out of shape, but I’m excited to see how the season goes. This was a pretty good first game and things to work on.”
It was the first game of the season for the Warriors with them hosting the Mavericks. Riverdale struck first in the 10th minute with a Hazel Neham goal before Nisly scored her first goal of the game in the 13th. The Mavs scored twice in the 23rd and 28th with goals from Abby Zurasky and Caitlin Moran before Ayla Harris (32nd) and Nisly (34th) scored to pull Amity back to even with Riverdale going into the halftime break.
The Warriors played more soundly once they evened out the score in the 34th minute following Nisly’s second goal, something that they carried over into the second half in their 4-3 defeat to the Mavericks. The game difference came in the 45th minute with Moran joining Nisly in having a two-goal ‘brace’-feat in Riverdale’s season opener as well with Amity holding the Mavericks to that one early second half goal for the remainder of the half. The game itself was a good one, points Harris, as they had opportunities too to tie it back up following the goal as they look to work on their conditioning moving further into the season ahead.
“We just struggled in the beginning with it being the first game of the season with the nerves. But we got back into it, felt good and I think we did pretty good. I think we came back pretty strongly,” Harris said. “It showed that we can work on certain things, mostly one thing and that’s conditioning. We definitely need some things to work on, but it showed us where we’re at and what we’re doing.”
Amity will host Blanchet Catholic on Tuesday at 5:15 before hosting Dayton on September 8 before their first road trip of the year at Yamhill-Carlton on September 12.
